I discovered this new game through my cousin when he showed me Temple Run 2‘s video on Youtube, but I was too busy to download it right away. When I read about it on Eirhon.Com, I got even more curious. I’ve been seeing positive and negative feed backs about it, that’s when I decided to give it a try and check it out myself.
I finally got to play it a few days ago and now I’ve decided to share with you guys what I think about it. Here’s my Temple Run 2 Review.
Basically, it’s still the same thing. It still has the same mechanics, to run away from the demon monkey that’s chasing you. Only this time, instead of eight small demon monkeys, you now have one BIG demon money chasing you. But they did have some improvements and additional obstacles.
For the improvements, there are few that I can mention. There’s the better graphics of the game, more power ups (the gem bonus, score bonus and the shield), abilities (save me, power meter, pickup spawn and shield duration), new environment (although I personally think it’s a bit bewildering due to the ups and downs of the runway), and the gems!
If in the old Temple Run, we had the wings which were very easy to buy and use if you have a lot of coins, here in Temple Run 2, we have the gems which you will have to gather during the game but it doesn’t come out often so in order to save more gems, you have to play the game again and again and try your luck with the gems. Once you fell from the runway, you will have the option to use the gem as a ‘Save Me’ option and continue your game but it will cost more gems if you use it more than once in a game.
They also improved the bonus meter that you will notice on the upper left side of your Temple Run 2 screen.
If you can still remember, in the first Temple Run, every time you fill the bonus meter, you will get a piece of a puzzle coin and once you completed it, you will earn bonus points for every fill of the bonus meter. In Temple Run 2, it’s a bit different. You now have to ability to choose what power-up that you want to use once you fill the bonus meter. But in order to unlock these power-ups, you have to unlock the characters first. Once you fill the bonus meter, it will turn green as a notification that you can now use your power-up. To do this, you just have to double tap the screen (like when we use wings in the old Temple Run). You can also upgrade the duration of usage of these power-ups but you have to buy them with coins.
As for the new environment and obstacles of the game, aside from the forest-like runway located somewhere in the sky, they also added a zipline adventure and a mine tunnel. These are my new favorites in Temple Run 2.
Anyway, I think the changes that they made in Temple Run 2 are not as major as what we expected but it can still be pretty addictive if you loved the first Temple Run. Personally, if I will have to rate this game, I will give it an 8. No major changes were made, no new characters and the goal is, pretty much, still the same. But that’s just my opinion.
You can download this game from the Apple AppStore.
